Laboratory Technician / Design Engineer

Since 1999, Klipspringer has supported thousands of UK food and beverage producers in securing final product integrity and 'compliance with confidence'. We provide measuring and monitoring equipment as well as a vast range of specialist food hygiene and safety products to the food industry.

Due to continued growth we are looking to recruit a Laboratory Technician / Design Engineer to join our enthusiastic team.

This permanent position is well suited to an individual looking to advance their career and gain hands-on experience in a thriving and supportive workplace.

Your roles and responsibilities will be varied, to include:

Development engineering – to help and support current and future projects covering experimental design and engineering or assist with development and improvement of current equipment. This will generally be working on one or two projects at a time. Able to work with partners to perfect the concept idea through to launch. Able to fully record all aspects of the development process.

Calibration – Following a period of training to become approved signatory for issue of UKAS certificates.  To carry out calibration of various pieces equipment, including dry block calibrators,
thermometers, temperature logger, humidity devices, weights, pH meters etc. 

Service – Assessment of equipment on arrival, diagnose fault and using tools and equipment on site repair the item to an agreed acceptable level of accuracy.

Electronics – reviewing electronic components etc. to affect a repair.  Provide technical support.

Educational skills:

English to GCSE level or equivalent 

Maths to GCSE level or equivalent

Science, preferably Physics to GCSE level or equivalent

Vocational Skills:

Previous 2-3 years’ experience in laboratory based electronic, calibration role preferable or in similar type of production role.

Qualification in electronic engineering required, preferably
2-3 years’ relevant experience, with additional training given where required.

Previous approved signatory status preferred but not essential

Familiarity of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 preferred but not essential.

Computer literate and familiar with a MRP systems, Excel and word.

Personal Skills:

Interest in engineering and problem solving.

Methodical, organised and structured approach to work; with good attention to detail to ensure 100% accuracy at all times.

Passion for continuous improvement and developing electronic based components

Enthusiasm to learn and apply new skills.

Able to work as part of as small team in a fast moving laboratory whilst also being able to self-motivate and work on own initiative.

Able to converse directly with customers if required and ability to take accurate records of conversations etc.
