Learn more about Klipspringer's Single Use USB Temperature Data Logger and discover the benefits of using the free Management Software that accompanies it.
If your site works with products or ingredients that require strict temperature regulation during transport and storage, it is likely that Data Logging plays a crucial part in your operation.
With this in mind, we decided to produce a guide to Single Use Data Loggers – one of the most popular methods of temperature monitoring in storage and cold chain logistics.
In the following article, we will explore the different features and functions of Klipspringer’s Single Use USB Temperature Data Loggers. We will also take a closer look at the free Management Software that could be used to enhance every aspect of the Data Logging process at your site.
Single Use USB Temperature Data Logger
Single Use USB Temperature Data Loggers support the immediate review of temperature monitoring data from storage areas and cold chain logistics.
Small and lightweight, they can be placed alongside your products and ingredients to track environmental temperature and identify any breaches.
Once the logger arrives at your site or your products and ingredients have been moved from the storage area, your operatives will be able to instantly access the data via USB.

The process can be completed in just a few simple steps:
1. Hold down the START button for five seconds to turn on the Data Logger. It is preconfigured and ready to use. However, if you want to make any changes, such as introducing alarm thresholds or setting up a start delay, you can do this using the Klipspringer Logger Management Software. To learn more about this software, click here.
2. Place the Data Logger amongst the products or ingredients being monitored. This could be in a shipment or an on-site storage area.
3. Once the shipment has arrived or the products/ingredients have been moved out of the storage area, retrieve the device and click STOP to disable it.

4. Connect the Temperature Data Logger directly to the computer via the USB port.
The LC7000 Data Logger is also STL compatible which means it can also be connected on-the-spot to a phone via USB-USB C connection.
5. The data report will download automatically in PDF and CSV format. This will happen without the need for software installation. However, for improved user-experience, you also have the option of downloading the free Klipspringer Logger Management Software.

Waterproof Protection
The Klipspringer Single Use USB Temperature Data Logger comes in a waterproof, food safe sheath that protects the device from any water damage. However, if you decide to adjust the settings on your Data Logger before use, you will need to cut open the sheath and remove the Data Logger.
To ensure your Data Logger is still protected from water damage, you will need to complete the following process:
1. Using the sticker that sits on the back of each logger, attach the logger to the Paper Slip included in your kit. You can write any relevant information on the slip.
2. Place the paper slip inside the Document Pouch that was also included in your kit.
3. Attach the pouch to the container, as you would if it was still in the original sheath.
4. Once the data logger arrives at your site or your products and ingredients have been moved from the storage area, simply open up the pouch and access the data via USB.

Data Rescue Memory

Say an operative forgets to initiate the data logger and a report isn’t available to download upon arrival, this could spell disaster if something has gone wrong with the containment and a legal dispute occurs. To account for this possibility, the LC70000 is equipped with Data Rescue Memory.
To activate this function, go into the ‘Summary’ tab on the Klipspringer Logger Management Software and select the ‘DRM’ button on the right-hand side of the screen. The unit will then display recordings taken at 60 minute intervals from the point of manufacture.
Klipspringer Logger Management Software
To enhance your experience of using the LC70000 logger, we have developed the Klipspringer Logger Management Software, a free system that takes just minutes to download onto your device. Using this software, you can pre-configure your Data Logger and perform a wide range of functions:
Pre-Configure your Data Logger
1. Change the Logging Intervals
If you don’t make any adjustments to the Logging Intervals of the LC70000, it will record data every 10 minutes and will have a lifespan of 110 days.
However, if you increase/decrease the logging intervals, this will increase/reduce battery usage and shorten/extend the lifespan of your Data Logger.
Any adjustments can be made using the Klipspringer Logger Management Software. Simply enter your requirements in the relevant field (pictured). If the adjustments impact the battery life, this will be displayed on the software.
2. Assign a Trip ID

At this stage, you can also assign a Trip ID to your Data Logger. This will make it easier for you to manage and share your data. It will also allow you to group together relevant results when the time comes to assess the history of your Data Logger, as you can sort your results by Trip ID so that all data taken e.g. on the same day, during the same shipment, or from the same company can be listed in one place.
3. Add a Description

The next option is to add a Description that will appear alongside the results of your Data Logger. This is a quick and easy way to convey any important information, such as the details of a shipment route or the number of data loggers present in a trailer. Adding a description is a great way to communicate with other members of your team and it could also prove useful when it comes to reviewing historic reports.
4. Change when the Data Logger starts recording

If you would like to extend the lifespan of your Data Logger, one option is to adjust the point at which it starts recording. This is a particularly useful function for sites that know, and can rely on, the specific timings of deliveries. If you are less certain, the Klipspringer Logger Management Software allows you to filter out any irrelevant data after the fact – removing specific time periods to produce a relevant report.
5. Change how the Data Logger starts recording

As mentioned above, the LC70000 Data Logger will record data once the START button has been held down for five seconds. However, this is another feature that can be adapted to suit the needs of your site. If you decide that having to press the START button doesn’t work for your operation, you can use the Management Software to change this setting so that the logger starts recording data automatically or after a set time period.
6. Implement Alarm Thresholds
Finally, the software can be used to implement alarm thresholds for your Data Logger. If we use the example of a shipment that needs to stay within the temperature range of -15°C to -25°C, you will be able to establish the maximum and minimum temperatures so that an alarm will only be triggered if the temperature moves outside these parameters.

You can even set up delays for the alarms, so they aren’t triggered automatically. This is the best way to account for operatives opening and closing doors, as if the door is closed within an acceptable and pre-determined time period, an alarm won’t be triggered.
However, if the door is left open long enough to compromise the product, the alarm will register as a red cross on the final data report, with the exact time it was triggered showing on the graph.
Thanks to the data logger, you will also have a record of the temperature, allowing you to work out if the product or ingredients have been compromised and need to be discarded/rejected.
Access and Share Recorded Data
1. Access Data Logger History
Using the ‘History’ Tab at the top of the software display, you will also be able to access the history of your Data Loggers. Each report can then be sorted in relation to key parameters such as Trip ID.
Another option is to filter results using the ‘Alarmed Devices’ button, so that only the reports for loggers that triggered alarms are displayed.

Being able to sort your data in this way will simplify the process of saving and sharing your results. What’s more, you can export data and create reports for each logging session at any point, searching through the changing criteria every time.
2. Filter Data

Once you have evaluated the results of your Data Logger, you may decide that only certain parts of the data record are relevant.
For example, you may want to remove the portion of the record where the Data Logger was being stored and moved across your site before being placed amongst the products being tracked. In this instance, the Klipspringer Logger Management Software will allow you to adjust the start and end times of the report.
3. Share with Contacts

Another benefit of the software is that it makes it easier for you to share important data with key contacts.
Once you have set up the server via the ’email’ tab, you will be able to send reports directly to your colleagues, customers, and even auditors. This can be done in four different formats. As mentioned above, there is also the option to filter your data to ensure only the relevant time frames are shared.
Calibration and Certification

An electronic Calibration Certificate is stored on each Data Logger in PDF format, with the LC70000 calibrated to six points. This certificate can be viewed and downloaded when the Data Logger is connected to a device via USB. The Data Logger also has an internal digital sensor with a self-calibrating function.
Another point to note is that the LC70000 Data Logger complies to the RTCA/DO-160G Environmental Conditions, ensuring it is suitable for air transport under active status. It also possesses the following certifications: EN12830, CE, NIST, and FCC.
