EasyPlateMicrobiological Tests

Simplify microbiological testing with ready-to-use prepared media plates.

Save time, cut waste, free up incubator space with EasyPlate Microbiological Test Kits.

EasyPlate from Kikkoman is a range of ready-to-use prepared media plates that streamline routine microbiological testing in food and beverage laboratories. The compact film format eliminates the need to prepare, sterilise and pour conventional agar media, helping laboratories process samples faster while maintaining consistent, reliable results.

Make Routine Microbiological Testing Easier

Preparing conventional agar plates requires time, equipment and trained laboratory resource. EasyPlate replaces these preparation stages with a convenient dry-media format that is ready to use immediately after opening. Each plate contains a prefabricated culture medium beneath a transparent cover film.

An integrated hydrophobic ring guides the applied sample evenly across the culture area, removing the need for a separate spreading tool. This means no agar preparation, media sterilisation, plate pouring, or separate spreading rods. It also means less preparation equipment and laboratory waste.

EasyPlate Tests

Each EasyPlate test uses a formulation developed specifically for its target organism or organism group. The resulting colony colours enable straightforward identification and enumeration.

The Klipspringer range includes the following tests:

EasyPlate in 4 Simple Steps

1. Prepare the Sample

Homogenise and dilute the sample according to the appropriate microbiological method.

2. Apply the Suspension

Lift the transparent cover and pipette the required volume of prepared sample onto the centre of the plate.

3. Incubate

Close the cover and incubate the plate using the time and temperature specified for the selected EasyPlate method.

4. Count the Colonies

Identify and enumerate the coloured colonies manually or use the Colony Counting System for EasyPlate.

Reading Your Results

EasyPlates produce characteristic colour changes in response to the target organism, making colonies easy to identify and count.

To show just how straightforward reading your results can be, we’ve put together a Help Guide offering a closer look at the EasyPlate Microbiological Test for E. coli & Coliform.

There’s also the option to use the EasyPlate Colony Counting System, which saves you time and reduces the risk of error by automating the entire counting process.

Designed for Testing Laboratories

EasyPlate can support routine microbiological testing across:

Samples must be prepared, diluted, and incubated in accordance with the relevant Easy Plate instructions and the laboratory’s validated testing procedure.

Colony Counting System for EasyPlate

The EasyPlate Colony Counting System speeds up and simplifies colony counting while reducing the risk of human error. It uses image-analysis technology to:

  • Automatically identify the EasyPlate® product being scanned
  • Detect and count colonies
  • Identify spread colonies
  • Apply preconfigured colony-assessment parameters
  • Review or rectify results
  • Add comments to individual analyses
  • Reduce differences between operators
  • Save time compared with manual counting
  • Scan multiple sheets at once
